Amakhala is a five star safari reserve that began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture. The different lodges are still managed by the families of the original 1820 British settlers. Their aim is to reintroduce wildlife back into the wild. Prior to 1999, the land was used for cattle farming, so flora and fauna have had to be re-established. Amakhala offers a range of activities; such as morning and evening game drives, safari walks, cheese and wine boat cruises along the Bushman’s River and canoe expeditions.
