Madikwe

Madikwe is a prime Big Five game reserve renowned for its wild dogs, one of the continent’s most elusive and threatened species. The reserve borders Botswana and is located in North West Province, less than four hours’ drive west of Johannesburg. Unlike the Kruger and Lowveld reserves, Madikwe is malaria-free, making it a popular choice for families with young children. Accommodation is in luxury private game lodges rated four to five stars.
The park lies in a transition zone between bushveld and Kalahari thornveld. As a result, it hosts a wide diversity of species from both ecosystems. Geographically, the region has large volcanic intrusions known as inselbergs, wide open plains and riverine environments. Madikwe is home to 66 mammal species and more than 300 resident and migrant bird species. Close by is Sun City, offering first rate golfing, luxurious accommodation, the Palace of the Lost City and picturesque Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
